GENERAL SURGERY
General surgeons perform surgery on the organs of the abdomen, as well as the thyroid, breast, and carotid arteries. They play a pivotal role in the care of patients with cancer, trauma, and vascular disease. In order to become a surgeon, doctors must complete five years of training in a surgical residency after medical school.
